Adultery wrong? Well, of course it is. It's one of the "Thou shalt nots"! So in Proverbs 7 is not simply a warning to stay away from the adulterer. Proverbs 7 tells you to beware of temptation.
Temptation can oh so subtily lead you astray. And before you know it, you are like verse 22 "like an ox going to the slaughter.
Verse 7-9 a youth lacking judgement put himself in position to be taken advantage. How many times a day do we go slack in judgement. "Oh this tv show is innocent enough" "I'll do my Bible study later" "I'll just check my Facebook then I'll have extra time to pray". Shall I go on?
Definitely it is the little foxes that spoil the vine. Like this youth in verse 23 "little knowing it will cost him his life", we must ever be alert to what distracts us from wisdom. Verse 26 "many are the victims she (temptation) has brought down"
Where in lies the answer? Verse 4 "Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," In other words speak God's word. Have it in your heart and in your mouth. You are a joint heir with Jesus, the word of God who is alive. Keep the word in you making sure that everywhere you go and in whatever you do, that word speaks to your circumstances.
